an empty nest

In September Little Missy started to go to playgroup / pre-school 2 mornings a week. She was delighted, she could get dropped off and picked up again, just like her big sister.  I thought oooohh, time for some crafting and my little brain notched up endless projects for me to get busy with.

And I have kept busy....

... but I keep looking for her, ...the house is so quiet, ...it seems too soon for her to have left the nest. I miss her. And I watch the clock until I can go and get her again.

Don't get me wrong, I quite like the free time and I've managed to get a lot done. But it feels like such a huge step forward in letting her grow up, and be her own self, without me. I miss her.

What the heck am I going to do when she starts school?

But she loves it, and is full of tales of what she's been doing, and her new friends, and she can dress up and dance all morning. And she's happy. And the smile on her face when I pick her up is enormous - that's the best bit. x

  1. I so agree about it feeling like it's too soon for them to step away from the nest. I'm lucky that even though #2 has started doing 2 afternoon's at pre-school, I have my youngest at home. I can't imagine what it'll be like when they are all out doing there thing.
Must be lovely that she enjoys it so much, who can blame her, I would love the chance to dress up and dance all day!

  2. Sigh. I so relate to this feeling. I wonder if we are ever ready for our kids to grow away from us. So hard & so necessary. Hope you find some crafty goodness to fill the space. Jacs x

  3. Oh, it is funny that we miss them so much. I still have days now that my girl is in school that I pace the floor and get anxious to pick her up!
    Lovely nest photos!

  5. Oh I don't envy you at all!
Its funny..I'm in the position where I'm slightly waiting in anticipation for that freedom of my #2 to start nursery (in April) but knowing I'll feel EXACTLY as you are now! Oh to be a mumma!!!
Makes the times together even more precious I guess :0) x

  6. Hello Colette
Thank you for visiting and leaving your lovely comments :-)
As you know, we're waiting for adopted children - I know I'll be just like you in a few years time when they have to go to Nursery / School and I'm sure it's tricky in many ways to see them move on.
    I love your nest photos!
And the knitted telephone in the previous post - oh my!
    Happy days to you,
    Denise x
